Looking for an extremely social fun way to be creative, relax, and have an amazing piece of original artwork to display?
Kusudama (Kusu comes from the Japanese word for Kusuri—medicine. Dama is a Japanese word for a ball.) This is not a medicine ball usually associated with strenuous physical exercise. A kusudama is a sphere made up of origami (folded paper) stylized flowers. They are very therapeutic because it is extremely relaxing to make the flowers, relax and visit with other participants, and express yourself creatively with a beautiful piece of art that you can display with pride. There is a warning necessary—making kusudama can be very habit forming and so enjoyable that you will not want to stop making them.
This is a great activity for couples, families (children over 8 with adult supervision), and individuals looking for a nice social event. Instruction will guarantee you have a beautiful kusudama to take home by the end of the evening and the ability to create many more as gifts or decorations. They make a very thrifty decoration for weddings, showers, parties, and then can be given as a memento of the occasion.
The class will have a $5 donation fee for the origami paper and glue. All you need to do is come and have the magic of a kusudama in your life. Kennan Beckstrand will be facilitating this event.
