The new documentary feature “Just Gender,” narrated by Tony and Emmy-award winning actress Bebe Neuwirth, will screen in Rochester as part of a multi-city event for National Pride Month.
The Rochester screening will be at 7pm on June 5 at the Little Theatre. Excellus BlueCross BlueShield will sponsor the screening presented by the Gay Alliance in partnership with the Trans* Alliance of Greater Rochester (T*AGR). Tickets are $10, Student and low income $5. Purchase tickets HERE.
Gay Alliance Executive Director Scott Fearing said, “The Gay Alliance is pleased that we could help Rochester to be a included in the nationwide launch of this important film. Partnering with Excellus and T*AGR to host this screening is in-line with our long history as champions of LGBTQ life and culture in Western New York.”
Created to educate about transgender identities, “Just Gender” explores the breadth of transgender diversity and puts a human face on transgender experiences while challenging viewers to question existing notions of what it means to be male or female. Informative and straightforward, “Just Gender” seeks to counteract the ignorance that can lead to the discrimination and bias. Director and Executive Producer George Zuber, a Rochester native, will introduce the film and participate in a Talk-Back session after the screening.
During early June, “Just Gender” will screen in 18 cities throughout the United States with all proceeds from each screening benefitting a local organization that supports members of the Trans* communities. In addition to Rochester, the other cities include San Francisco, New York, Minneapolis, Dallas, Salt Lake City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Atlanta, Miami, Seattle, Tucson, St. Louis, Boston, Denver, Los Angeles, and Washington DC. “Just Gender” recently played to standing-room-only audiences in Tulsa, Fort Lauderdale and Chesterton, MD.
